GIS Day 2016

16 November 2016

On November 16, 2016 the Faculty of Earth Sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun organized a annual GIS Day seminar. For the seventeenth time, Toruń became the regional capital of geoinformation.

GIS Day is a celebration of fans of Geographical Information Systems, where worldwide meetings, lectures and demonstrations devoted to the application of this technology in everyday life take place. The Faculty of Earth Sciences of the Nicolaus Copernicus is organizing the event in Toruń since 2000.

The theme of this year's symposium was geotechnology in water applications, which corresponds perfectly with the National Inauguration of the Year of the Vistula River, which took place in Toruń on 19 October.

This year's GIS Day featured lectures, demonstrations of technology, demonstrations and practical workshops, and awards contests. During the three speeches sessions, there were mainly examples of application or GIS support for water and sewage infrastructure management (ASC from Toruń, Bentley Systems Polska from Warsaw, Apator Rector from Zielona Góra or Esri Polska from Warsaw), flood risk management (RZGW from Gdańsk) Or the development of rainwater management concepts (DHI Polska). In addition, the possibilities of remote sensing techniques for precision farming (Geomatic Poznań) have been presented and the benefits for students from the implementation at the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń are presented.

The special guest of the Symposium was Mr Eric Straalman, commercial director of Geocom Informatik in Zurich, Switzerland - Platinum partner of Esri Inc.. (USA), who presented “tailor-made” dedicated applications for selected specialized applications.
